I still haven't read DH, and the closest thing I see is innocent, though that's not exactly what I would say. In my eyes, he's trying to help one side without getting on the bad list of the other side, because of a decision that he regrets. But then, that's kind of in my fandom, which is kind of remarkably uncanonical...

There is a quote from Seinfeld that sums this up perfectly:
(Basically, Jerry is talking about how it's a pain in the neck when you have to go out during a movie, then come back in and have to ask people what's going on?)
"Wait a minute! Why'd they kill him? He was with them? Oh, he wasn't really with them. Well, it's a good thing they killed him!"
(The funny thing is that my dad randomly quoted that before watching OOTP, after a converastion about him thinking Snape was just an evil git. (I had told him that the movie made no sense to people who hadn't read the book and would have to explain it.) I just kind of looked at him, and nearly asked him when he'd gotten ESP.)
